Daring Bakers: Flourless Chocolate Cake & Ice Cream!

The February 2009 challenge is hosted by Wendy of WMPE's blog and Dharm of Dad ~ Baker & Chef.
We have chosen a Chocolate Valentino cake by Chef Wan; a Vanilla Ice Cream recipe from Dharm and a Vanilla Ice Cream recipe from Wendy as the challenge.

Thanks Wendy and Dharm!  I really enjoyed this challenge for so many reasons.  First, it was relatively simple to make, and second, it was naturally gluten free.  Unless you got wheat-laden chocolate, but thats an easy fix =D.

So... Here is how I made the Chocolate Valentino Cake:
I got out a whole ton of chocolate bars, and broke them up.  Ok, and I snuck a few bites =D
Then I got out and cut up the butter.
Then I placed the skillfully broken up chocolate into a heat-proof bowl.
And added the butter, of course.
Slowly melt it all together...
Until it's melted.  And Combined.

Then do some things with the eggs, mix it all together, plop the cake in the oven and make that ice cream.  Actually I started it ages ago, but I needed to stir it.  No Ice Cream Maker means stirring every 1/2 hour, so do that =D.
Pre-stirring.
While stirring.  So much more uniform, or it will be soon enough =D.
Yeah, don't forget the cake.  I wouldn't want it to burn or anything.
Mmm, and of course it all comes together perfectly!

I really enjoyed this cake.  It was very good.  And very rich, which meant that I couldn't eat that much, but my brother gobbled it up before I'd even sat down =D.  I used the Ice Cream recipe from Wendy, because I found it simpler, and I obviously made it in my freezer...

Enjoy this cake, it's really really good!

xoxo
Lauren

Your results look wonderful. As a new Daring Baker, I'm learning I have much more to discover and try in baking. And that's the fun of trying these challenges. I thought the recipes were easy, too, which was a relief to me. Your pictorial process has just showed me some improved ways to do things next time. Thank you so much for sharing your endeavors as well as visiting my blog and leaving such a sweet and encouraging note.

What a great way of explaining the recipe all in pictures - this makes it so simple. Yes this was one of the best chocolate cakes I have made and so easy and just 3 ingredients. What a fab job you have done on this challenge.

Your cake and icecream look so goo - no wonder your brother gobbled it up in a wink. The cake looks so elegant sitting on the plate sprinkled with icing sugar.

Great job on making ice cream without a machine! I wimped out and bought one just for this challenge, but my friends are glad because I'm kind of obsessed with making (and sharing!) as many flavors of ice cream as I can.

Looks like your cake was a winner. It is nice to have a recipe that didn't need lots of substitution for being gluten free. Great job with the challenge Lauren!

It's so great this challenge was gluten free.

I love the addition of the powdered sugar to yours! I should have made my second cake in a round pan...it looks so much nicer as a wedge than a plopped down square. ;-)

That's a lovely cake. And you really cannot eat too much of it anyways. Good things are meant to be savoured slowly.:)
Though your brother obviously thought the cake too good to do so.:D
